Honourable Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo reiterates Government’s
commitment to promote women empowerment & gender-based equality
The Women’s Pavilion Majlis hosted an interactive conversation with Honourable Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity on Wednesday 17th November 2021.
During her intervention, the Honourable Minister expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the UAE government to put women at the forefront of development and congratulated Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 to place gender equality and women’s empowerment at the core of the Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Minister underlined that Expo 2020 has provided a marvelous platform to explore the world in one single place and to portray the specificities and particularities of each country ingeniously. A process which allows visitors to immerse in an incredible journey and experience.
Speaking about her rich career and journey in politics, Mrs. Daureewoo underlined that one of the major milestones achieved is the success in addressing disparity for the Invalid Basic Pension for children by eliminating the age criterion, hence bringing relief to many families.
She also emphasized the importance of education as a game changer for women empowerment and pointed out that gender-based violence should be treated in a holistic manner.
She has also highlighted the impressive strides made by Mauritius to attract a larger number of women in politics and underlined the firm commitment of the Prime Minister, Honorable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth to address the representation of women in decision-making positions and gender-based inequalities.
