The President of the Republic of Mauritius, currently on mission in Dubai, visited the Dubai Expo 2020 on Tuesday March 15 for a flag-raising ceremony to mark the celebration of the National Day. His Excellency, Prithvirajsing Roopun was accompanied to this international event by a ministerial delegation, the Mauritian Ambassador to the UAE, Showkutally Soodhun as well as representatives of the Economic Development Board.
During his address, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai highlighted the economic development of Mauritius since its independence and highlighted the growing collaboration between the two countries in key areas, including renewable energies and the hotel industry. “We are proud to count you among the participants of the Dubai Expo 2020. The United Arab Emirates is proud to share the continuous bilateral ties with Mauritius,” mentioned the UAE Minister.
His Excellency, Prithvirajsing Roopun expressed his gratitude to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for supporting the economic progress of Mauritius and invited companies based in the region to consider Mauritius as an investment and business platform. “The Mauritius Pavilion highlights our identity as a microcosm of the world and provides insight into the socio-economic journey that has led us to be in tune with the future,” he said.
The President also recognized the importance of the Mauritian Diaspora and its role in improving the image of the country on the world stage.
To mark the event, a cultural performance took place, hosted by the dance group Anna Patten. The Mauritian and UAE delegation then proceeded to the Mauritian Pavilion for a guided tour.
The celebration of the National Day closed Mauritius’ participation in this universal exhibition.
