Happy International Women’s Day 2022

For this very special International Women’s Day at EXPO Dubai 2020, the Mauritius Pavilion is celebrating the contribution of all the women who helped shape the pavilion events and elevate the visibility of Mauritius to this planetary level.  Women’s creativity has been at the forefront of Expo 2020 and each of the four zones of the Mauritius pavilion translates women’s inspiration, creativity, and dedication.

The Mauritius pavilion story sets out with the now famous 3-D fauna and flora wall which maps the interior of the pavilion.   This work of art was designed and built by a women-entrepreneur, Sharanaz Subratty, Director of Casting World.  Ms. Subratty’s creation was inspired by Mauritius unique wildlife and coastlines, to create a perfect replica of the Island’s most stunning natural wonders.

The now extinct Dodo which is Mauritius most emblematic bird since the origin of the island, poses majestically in the Mauritius pavilion. Thanks to the talent of Zaahirah Muthy, a renowned international artist and Managing Director of Zee arts, the Dodo came to life again in this stunningly real mold.

The voice of one of the Women of Mauritius resonated at the Expo 2020 – Women’s dedicated pavilion, set on the theme that ‘’When women thrive, all of humanity thrives’’. Minister Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo shared her vision of her own experience as a Women policy maker in charge of shaping the roadmap to a fully inclusive Welfare Mauritius.

The last theme week at Expo 2020 will be the Water Week, starting on March 20, 2022 and lasting until March 26, 2022. With Mauritius vast maritime zone of 2.3 million square kilometers, Mauritius has much to say about Marine Conservation and Community projects. As President of the NGO – Mauritius Marine Conservation Society, Mrs. Jacqueline Sauzier will be an online contributor to the World Majlis session, speaking about Mauritius initiatives to create greater awareness of the role that oceans play in communities’ lives and how this is translated into real change.

Finally, the Mauritius Pavilion wishes to pay tribute to the hard work and diligence of all the Women working at the pavilion or has contributed in one way or the other to make Mauritius participation at the EXPO Dubai 2020 a success.

To all the women who played a part to this extraordinary Expo experience, ‘’Thank you’’.  And to all the Women of Mauritius, this video is to your immense devotion.  Happy Women’s Day!
