Dubai, UAE 6 October 2021: Mauritius pavilion welcomes visitors to explore the perfect blend of leisure, investment and business prospects at the Expo 2020 Dubai. Mr. Ken Poonoosamy, Commissioner General for Mauritius Pavilion in Expo2020 and Chief Executive Officer, Economic Development Board of Mauritius welcomed dignitaries, guests and visitors to Mauritius pavilion in the official ribbon cutting ceremony and shared highlights of the pavilion with a star studded audience.

The Guest of Honor for the ceremony, H.E. Amb. Showkutally Soodhun, G.C.S.K, Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius to the United Arab Emirates and Deputy Commissioner General for the Mauritius pavilion, thanked the Government of UAE and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Hon. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth for their unflinching support in ensuring a successful participation of Mauritius at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Mr. Ken Poonoosamy highlighted the business events and cultural activities that will be held during the six months of the Expo focusing on the country’s vision, sustainable development and its will to embrace innovation.

Through its participation at Expo 2020 Dubai, Mauritius seeks to build stronger bilateral ties with the GCC countries, and consolidate its role as a safe travel destination and leading business platform for the region.

The Mauritius pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai   themed ‘Roots of the Future’ showcases the rich and vibrant cultural heritage and provides an insight into the economic pathway towards the journey ushering Mauritius to a high-income economy.

As a leading and emerging economy in Africa, Mauritius has always been in the league of best countries in the world for its conducive business environment and maintained a lead position in Africa. Mauritius continues to top the list in the Ibrahim Index of African Governance and features as the best in the African continent under several internationally renowned indicators such as the Global Competitiveness Index, Global Innovation Index, Human Development Index, and the Index of Economic Freedom amongst others.

Mauritius continues with its proactive and transparent response to the global COVID crisis and has successfully contained the pandemic resulting in the re-opening of our borders on the 1 October 2021. The nation has one of the highest fully vaccinated rates in Africa, currently standing at over 60 percent of the overall population (82 percent of the local adult population)

Leveraging our strategic location in the Opportunity District which is next to the UAE Pavilion and the Al Wasl Plaza which is located at the heart of the Expo site, Mauritius is expected to attract a large inflow of visitors throughout the Expo 2020 Dubai.
